Plastic pants - additional information.
Our range of waterproof pants has developed over the years thanks to feedback from our customers and independent testing by university departments and continence management specialists. However, like any item of clothing, the requirements of our customers is diverse and we try to match this within the constraints of providing affordable products to include and support those people who are often on limited incomes.
The material.
The most important things to our customers are comfort and the discreteness of the pants. To address this, we have selected the softest and quietest vinyl for all our plastic pants. Unfortunately, this type of vinyl is considerably more expensive than the cheap vinyl's that are readily available in the UK.
The elastic.
Choosing the elastic for the leg and waist openings presented us with a challenge. Many customers who wear plastic pants 24/7 as additional protection over disposable pads, prefer the comfort of bound openings. However, to reduce the chance of wicking, our long-life and made-to-measure pants have a thin cotton elastic rather than the thicker plush elastic used by other manufacturers. This also gives you a smoother line under ordinary clothes.
The other pants in our range have the elastic fully enclosed in the vinyl, to totally eliminate any chance of wicking. All of these pants use 0.5 inch elastic for comfort and security.
Construction.
With the exception of the made-to-measure and long-life pants with bound openings, all of our plastic pants have welded sides to ensure that there are no leaks when sleeping on your side. Currently, the elastic casing is sewn to help reduce the drying time if moisture enters the hem. We could manufacture a fully welded pant and would welcome advice from our customers.
The body shape.
Our standard pants have been designed to be suitable for use over disposable nappies, all sizes of pad and our terry-towelling pants. By purchasing a larger size, most customers find that they are also suitable for use over terry-towelling nappies. The crotch width on the larger sizes (XL and above) is very generous. The standard pants have a high waist and low leg to ensure that the pad, disposable or reusable nappy can be fully contained. We also supply a low-waisted white vinyl pant for cooler daytime use.
Mobility features.
For the less mobile and those who may need to be changed by a carer, we also supply side-snap plastic pants. As requested by customers, these are produced in a slightly thicker vinyl to prevent tearing when using the snap fasteners or when sliding in and out of wheelchairs.
Special needs.
Some of our customers have special requirements, such as one leg opening considerably smaller than the other. To meet these needs, we also offer a made-to-measure service. We also produce plastic pants with terry-towelling liners and a style with a cotton cover that you can dye to any colour for complete discretion and a bit of fun if you don't like plain white.
